Sports news: first weekend of December 2025

The beginning of December 2025 was marked by a number of bright running events in the world of athletics. Marathons and cross-country events brought together the strongest athletes on the tracks of Spain, the USA, Kenya, Japan, China and other countries. The focus is on record results at the Valencia Marathon, where the women’s world leadership time and a number of national records were set. In addition, cross-country championships, debuts of promising athletes and dramatic finishes were noted.

Valencia (Spain, December 7)

Joycelyn Jepkosgei set a world leading time, track record and personal best of 2:14:00 to win the marathon. Perez Jepchirchir clocked 2:14:43 and Belgium’s Chloe Herbier was third (2:20:38), setting a national record. Among men, John Korir won with a time of 2:02:24, and German Amanal Petros was second (2:04:03), updating the German record.

Israel

Godav Belachev became the national champion in the half marathon, winning the Emek HaMaayanot race with a result of 1:04:30. Haymro Alame finished second (1:04:41). Among women, Caravan Halabi won (1:13:20).

USA (Portland, December 6)

Wayne Kelati Frezgi and Parker Wolfe became US champions in the 10 km cross-country race. They will lead Team USA at the World Cross Country Championships in January.

Kenya (Eldoret, December 6)

Dorcus Chepkemoy and Matthew Kipruto won the prestigious Chepsaita Gold Tour cross-country event.

Singapore (December 6-7)

Ethiopian Shuko Genemo won the marathon with a time of 2:41:24, and among men, Abel Boniface Sikovo was the fastest (2:15:40).

China (Shenzhen, December 7)

Kemal Husen from Ethiopia won the marathon (2:09:12), and among women, the best result was shown by Amid Fozia Jemal (2:26:14).

Hofu (Japan, December 7)

In Hofu, debutant Mizuki Nishimura won the marathon (2:25:54), and among men, Derese Workneh won (2:06:58). In Fukuoka, Bayeling Teshager was the best (2:07:51).

Other starts:

  • Macau: Mastewal Birhanu Senai (2:31:37) and Victor Kipchirchir (2:09:27) won victories.
  • USA (Sacramento): Molly Bourne won the marathon with a time of 2:24:09, and among the men, Futsum Zienaselassi (2:09:29).
  • Vietnam: Pham Thi Hong Le became the best among women (2:48:07).
  • India (Pune): Sakshi Jadhyal made her debut with a win (2:39:37).
