Sports News: Third weekend of December 2025

December 21 became a busy day for world athletics – several prestigious starts took place in different parts of the world at once.

Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegey won the Tata Steel World 25K, ahead of marathon world champion Alphonse Simba. Cheptegei’s time is 1:11:49, Simba is seven seconds behind. Tebello Ramakongana from Lesotho finished third. Among women, Ethiopian Degitu Azimerow won for the second time (1:19:36), forming the top three along with Sutume Kebede and Meselech Alemayehu.

On the Venta de Baños cross,  Kenyan juniors Brian Kiptuo and Dorcus Chepkwemey confidently won the 9.3 km races. Chepkwemey was almost a minute ahead of her nearest rival.

European champion Yann Schrub set a personal best at Corrida de Houilles (10 km) – 27:20, which brought him to eighth place in the European ranking in history. Among women, Slovenian Klara Lukan won (31:13).

Other starts:

  • In Thailand, Samwel Mailu and Dolphin Omara brought Kenya a double triumph in the Bangsaen21 half marathon.
  • In Taipei, Gadise Mulu set a marathon course record (2:24:17), and among men, Betwell Kibet won (2:09:31).
  • In Guangzhou,  Joyce Tele won the marathon (2:22:40) and Afewerk Mesfin was the best among men (2:12:23).
  • In the United States, 45-year-old Prisca Cerono won The Marathon Project with a personal best (2:25:17).
  • In Italy, Dmitry Nedelin won the marathon in Pisa (2:12:28), and Dominika Stelmakh became the best among women (2:38:25).
