Sports news: third weekend of March 2026

In the world of athletics, many bright events have taken place in recent days that have attracted the attention of running fans. Competitions of various distances were held in Spain, Italy, China, the USA and other countries, gathering leading athletes and setting new personal and national records. In Warsaw, the  owner of the track, Elżbieta Glinka, celebrated the victory in the half marathon with her own record of 69:25, and among men, the Kenyan Amon Kiptu (61:09) became the best. Read an overview of the Warsaw Half Marathon in the article on our website.

The Italian capital Rome hosted one of the largest marathons of the season, where Pascaline Kibiwot Jelagat from Kenya set a course record of 2:22:44. In the men’s race, Asbel Rutto finished first with a result of 2:06:32. In Monza, the best results were shown by Johannes Chiapinelli and Elisa Palmero.

In Madrid on  March 22, participants from Kenya dominated – Levi Kibet and Ludwig Chepngetich confidently won the city half marathon. Experienced 49-year-old Mark Kiptu became the winner of the half marathon in Aspeitia (63:17), and Diana Wanza won among women, setting a personal best of 67:31.   Jacob Kosgei finished first with a time of 61:58, and Laban  Kipkemboy was the fastest in Cervia.

In Copenhagen , at a distance of 5 km, Juliane Guid set a personal best of 15:34, and Axel Wang Christensen won the men’s start with a time of 14:03.

On March 22, the  World Athletics Gold Label Wussi Marathon was held in China  , where representatives of Ethiopia won a double triumph: Kemal Husen finished with a result of 2:07:07, and among women, Amid Fozia Jemal became the fastest with a time of 2:24:14. On the same day,  Kenyan athletes John Mburu and Veronica Njeri won in Wuhana.

In Germany, Richard Ringer and Esther Pfeiffer became national champions in the half marathon in Frankfurt. In Dresden, the  triumphants of the Novaled Citylauf 10K race were Dominika Mayer and Kifele Kefyalev from Ethiopia.

In Chicago,  Emma Grace Hurley rewrote history by setting a new U.S. record in the 8K solo run of 24:29. Meanwhile, Hector Pagan updated Puerto Rico’s record (61:55) in  the Project 13.1 race, and Anna Ozer won the women’s start with a personal best of 70:35.

In Ethiopia, in the capital of Addis Ababa, Bernesh Dessie became the winner of the prestigious Women First 5K run with a time of 15:23.

In Colombia, Leidi Romero and Mauricio González became champions of the national half marathon.

In South Korea, the victory in the Incheon Half Marathon was celebrated by Esau Kipkorir from Kenya.

Also on March 22, Kenyans Valentine Jebet and Rafael Gacheru Karita won in Valletta (Malta).

In Burgos, Lydia Campo and Abderrahmane Aferdi became the best in the city 10 km race. In Santiago de Compostela,  Isabel Barreiro and Adel Mechaal excelled. In Switzerland, Fabienne Fonlanten and Nino Freitag received the national titles in the 10 km race.

In Romania, Madalina Sirbu and Dragos Luca Pop became the strongest at the national competitions in Bucharest.
