Sports News: Fourth Weekend of March 2026

The world athletics season at the end of March turned out to be extremely full of records and personal achievements. Read more about the half marathon in Berlin, the 48-hour world championships, competitions in the USA, France, Poland, China.

The Berlin Half Marathon was one of the most notable starts. Likina Amoeba from Ethiopia won confidently with a result of 65:07. Her closest rivals were Kenyans Dezaila Jerono and Veronica Loleo, who both updated their best results. European records did not bypass the start: Belgian Chloe Herbier and Spaniard Carla Gaillardo set new national achievements, and in total, the first seventeen finishers ran the distance in less than an hour and ten minutes.

In the men’s race in Berlin, Andrea Kiptu from Kenya triumphed, who, together with pacemaker Denis Kipkemoi, covered the distance in the same time – 59:11. German Amanal Petros not only became the third, but also set a national record – 59:22. Several athletes broke the hour barrier on the fast track in Berlin at once.

In Yangzhou, China  , at the WA Platinum half marathon, Alex Matata set a distance record of 59:11. Among women, Miriam Chebet became the best, who also updated the course record – 66:27, significantly ahead of her rivals.

In the United States, at The Ten in  San Juan Capistrano, Germany’s Mohamed Abdilayi rewrote history by running the 10,000 meters in 26:56.58 – a new German record and the best result of the season in the world, just ten seconds slower than Mo Farah’s European record. Australian Kai Robinson was second with a continental record, while Dutchman Mike Foppen set a national achievement. In the women’s race, debutante Shelby Hooligan immediately topped the world rankings with a time of 30:50.10. Evelyn Kemboy won  the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, ahead of strong American runners, while Edwin Kurgat was the best in the men’s category

In the Venloop race  (Netherlands), Kenyan Gladys Kwamboka significantly surpassed the previous track record, finishing in 66:45. In the men’s race, the winner was Jamal Kipron from Kenya.

In Noaya, France,  the Maracan Abdelkarim Ben Zahra won with a career-best result of 62:10, while in the women’s standings Hanane Bouaggad was the first. In Saint-Médar,  at the 10-kilometer race, the first places were taken by the Irishwoman Fiona Everett with a result of 31:58 and the Frenchman Josselan Barellon Vernet, who also achieved a personal best of 29:23.

In Cape Town , in the women’s 10 km SPAR race, Teila Kavanagh was the fastest, who was only a few seconds ahead of Glenrose Haba. In Fez, Morocco, Hisham Oulada and Fatima Aafir won the 10-kilometer distance.

In Japan, at the Fukui Marathon, Koki Sato set a course record, completing the race in 2:11:07, and his compatriot Fuka Fukunaga triumphed in her debut marathon with a result of 2:37:00. Additionally, Saki Matsui and Haruki Minaktoya won at a distance of 5 km.

Several big starts took place in Poland. At the half marathon in Świeżyanskie, Kenyans Hilary Mayo and Lois Vanbui became the winners, and among Polish athletes, Andrzej Rogiewicz and Monika Olejarz became the best. In Krakow, Adam Czerwiński and Polina Gai won, and in the half marathon around Lake Żywieckie, Kenyans Albert Tonyu and Jescinta Kamau were the fastest.

The competition calendar continues to gain momentum, so many more interesting events await athletes and fans.
