Sports news: third weekend of April 2026

Last track and field weekend turned out to be extremely eventful and bright results in competitions around the world. Read more about the main event of last weekend – the Boston Marathon. And also in the issue about the marathon in Loredo, Istanbul, Belgrade, Vienna.

From the prestigious Boston Marathon to national championships and road races in Europe, Asia, Africa and America, athletes have set records, demonstrated high speeds and confirmed their class on the international stage.

The 130th marathon took place in Boston, which was again held under the full control of Kenyan athletes. In the women’s race, the title was defended by Sharon Lokedi, who finished with a result of 2:18:51, demonstrating powerful acceleration in the second half of the distance.  which was the best result among US athletes in the history of the Boston Marathon. The winner of the selection for the 2024 Olympic Games, Fiona O’Keeffe, was forced to withdraw from the start due to injury.

The men’s race was won by John Korir, who won  the Boston Marathon for the second time in a row  and set a new course record of 2:01:52. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, he showed the seventh fastest result in the history of world marathons. World champion Alphonse Simbu from Tanzania finished second, Kenyan runner Benson Kiproto third, and both surpassed the previous track record.  13 athletes covered the distance faster than 2:06, and 28 athletes ran out from 2:10.

A real historical event was recorded in Laredo, Spain, where Slovenian Clara Lucan became the first European woman to overcome the road 10 kilometers faster than 30 minutes. She finished with a result of 29:50 and broke the European record, emotionally celebrating this success after the finish.

In Belgrade and Vienna,  representatives of Ethiopia won. Tigist Gezakhan set a track record in the Vienna Marathon.

In  Istanbul, the half marathon was won by Pyuriti Gitonga and Alex Matata, who finished together with his twin brother.

In Poznan , Sheila Chepkirui won a landslide victory, and among men, John Vele from Tanzania successfully debuted.

The 32nd Jerusalem Marathon was canceled due to extreme heat. The half-marathon race nevertheless took place and ended with the victory of Haimro Alame.

In Argentina, Manuel Corsico and Florencia Lorena Coelho became the national champions in the half marathon.

Competitions were also held in France, Canada, Poland, Italy, Japan and Tanzania, where athletes set numerous personal records in marathons, half marathons and 5 and 10 km races.
