Last weekend’s road running competition ended with track record updates in New York, Chicago and Helsinki. The first European Off-Road Running Championships took place in Slovenia. The competitive season in triathlon and IRONMAN is gaining momentum.
The European Off-Road Running Championships in Slovenia the 52-kilometer trail was won by Switzerland’s Judit Wieder with a result of 4:36:41, ahead of the Spaniard Maria La Chica and the Swede Emma Eriksson. In the men’s race, the victory was won by the Frenchman Frederick Tranchamp (3:55:14). Switzerland and France also became the strongest in the team competition. And their national teams showed the best results among teams. On the final day of the championships, the Spaniard Jan Torella won the mountain race with a time of 1:00:09, while the strongest among the women was the German Anna Grober (1:09:41). Team victories were won by Italy among men and Switzerland among women. Representatives of France and Germany also successfully performed in the youth categories.
Agnes Ngetić confidently won the Mastercard New York Mini 10K race in New York, setting a new track record of 30:07. She was significantly ahead of her closest pursuers: Tsigie Gebreselama (30:53), Helen Obiri (31:10) and American Emily Venters, who showed a personal best of 31:36. Slovenian Clara Lucan finished with a time of 31:38, and Boston Marathon champion Sharon Lokedy was seventh (31:44).
In Chicago, Daniel Ebegno set a record for the half marathon course – 1:00:39, and in the women’s category, Mexican Laura Galván won (1:10:11).
In Stadtallendorf, Germany, at The Lightning 10,000 tournament, Blanca Dorfel won the 5000 meters in 15:11.89, ahead of Italy’s Federica Del Buono and Austria’s Lisa Redlinger. In the men’s 5000 m race, the Spaniard Abdessamad Oakhelfen won (13:25.48). In the 10,000 m, Denis Kipkogei (27:25.70) and Norway’s Anna Marie Sirewag (31:52.53) became the best.
In Helsinki, Alice Vainio won the half marathon with a time of 1:09:28, overtaking even the winner among men and surpassing the national record.
The US champions in the 4 mile were won by Cassandra Parker (20:16) and Ahmed Muhumed (17:57).
In Narva, Estonia, Laura Maasik (4:47.15) and Dennis Šalkauskas (4:20.78) became the national champions in the one-mile race.
In Rio de Janeiro , new track records were recorded: Gadisé Mulu won the women’s marathon (2:25:47), and among men, Tsegaye Getachev won in a tense struggle (2:10:23), only a second ahead of her compatriot.
The marathon in Nairobi was won by Enoch Kipkemboi with a personal best of 2:09:32 and Joy Kemuma (2:27:43). In the half marathon, Doreen Cherop (1:09:20) and Brian Kogo (1:00:55) won, and in the 10 km distance, the best were Fane Jairus and Zakaria Gakugu.
In Addis Ababa, Getachew Masresha and Meselech Alemayegu became the champions of Ethiopia in the half marathon. In Belgium (Leuven-la-Neuve), Jana Van Lent and Pierre Denay won at a distance of 10,000 m.
In Palermo, Italy, Yemaneberhan Crippa won the 10 km race with a result of 28:14.
