Sports news: third weekend of June 2026

We have collected for you the latest athletics news, high-profile victories and the best results of the week. Namely, about new records for running a mile in Japan, the results of the 10 km race in Boston, and about national championships in Europe and Africa.

In Japan, Nozomi Tanaka (4:33.8) and Soma Nagahara (3:57.0, national record) won at the Ginza Road Mile competition in Tokyo. In the men’s race, seven athletes ran faster than the national record, and among women, Wakana Kabasawa (4:36.8) and Ran Urabe (4:38.7) also won prizes.

In Boston, marathon winner Sharon Lockedy won the 10 km with a result of 31:28. Among men, Patrick Kiprop from Kenya finished first (27:55), ahead of Adrian Wildshutt from South Africa (28:00) and Davita Cearé from Eritrea (28:00).

Elzheta Glinka became the champion of Poland in the women’s 5 km race, showing a result of 15:57. The top three also included Silvia Indeka (16:30) and Kateryna Tseslyar (16:36, personal best.

At the Grandma’s Marathon in the United States, Dakota Popen (2:28:51) and Amanuel Mesel of Eritrea (2:11:21) won. In the Harry Bjorkland Half Marathon, the winners were Cassandra Parker (1:10:16) and Eiser Iverson (1:01:15).

Marte Jensen won the Norwegian women’s marathon title with a time of 2:58:24.

At the Kenyan National Championships, Lois Chemnung won the 10,000m race, ahead of Diana Wanza (31:56.80) and Selah Busieney (32:01.85).

In Stockholm, Britain’s Grace Molloy had the best result among women in the 10,000m mixed race with 33:27.71, while Norway’s Tore Akerliye won the men’s race (29:30.61).

On the first day of the Portland Track Festival, the victory in the 10,000 m was won by He Wuga from China (31:53.38) and Chandler Gibbens (27:55.08, personal best).

The Kenyan Championships were marked by the bright results of the leading athletes: Timothy Cheruyot won the 1500 m (3:32.28), Wycliffe Kinyamal won the 800 m (1:44.58), and Lilian Odira was the strongest in the women’s 800 m (2:00.44). Naomi Korir won the 1500 m with a personal best of 4:08.57. In the steeplechase, Simon Koech (8:16.59) and Celestine Bivot (9:26.12) were the first. At long distances, Matthew Kipsang and Nancy Jepkeme (5000 m), as well as Charles Kiboyno (10,000 m), became champions.
