Last weekend, the world record for the half marathon was updated, and the attention of sports fans was also focused on the Diamond League stage in Polish Silesia, where new competition records were set.

At the half marathon in Buenos Aires, Yomif Kejelcha from Ethiopia set a new world record. He covered the distance in 56 minutes 51 seconds, surpassing Jacob Kiplimo’s previous achievement by 29 seconds. Among women, the victory was won by the representative of Ethiopia Fotien Tesfai, who showed the best result of the season in the world and a track record of 1:03.57.

In Chorzów, Poland, the penultimate stage of the Diamond League took place before the season finale. The competition gathered almost 39 thousand spectators and presented several record results at once. Lithuanian discus athlete Mykolas Alekna set a tournament record and a Diamond League record with a discus of 72.58 m. Brazilian Alison dos Santos showed the best result of the season in the world in the 400 m hurdles, running in 46.43 seconds and ahead of Norway’s Carsten Warholm. World record holder in pole vault Armand Duplantis overcame a height of 6.20 m and confidently won the competition. In the shot put, Italian Leonardo Fabbri won with a result of 22.08 m, and Canadian Ethan Katzberg became the best in the hammer throw, showing 82.92 m. Yaroslava Mahuchikh won with a result of 2.00 m, repeating the tournament record. The second place was taken by Iryna Gerashchenko, who conquered 1.98 m. Yulia Levchenko finished the performance with a result of 1.89 m.

At the Felix Sanchez Classic in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Jamaican sprinter Lavagna Williams improved her personal best in the 100 meters to 10.90 seconds. In the men’s race, Colombian Ronal Longa crossed the finish line in 9.84 seconds with a tailwind.

In Lausanne, five tournament records were set at the Athletissima stage. The main character for the local fans was the Swiss Audrey Verrault, who triumphed at a distance of 800 meters with a result of 1:55.33. Recent European champions Nicoleta Zapletalova and Miltiadis Tentoglou also won.

The Maybank Marathon in Bali ended with the victory of Kenyans Michael Kimani Kamau and Veronica Maina.

Kenya’s Isaiah Lasoi and Ethiopia’s Girmawit Gebrzihair won the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in the UK.

In South Africa, at the ABSA Run Your City 10K race, Kenyan Salem Kibet won the men’s race with a result of 28:45, and among women, his compatriot Doreen Cherop finished first, who covered the distance in 31:35.
