Case Study: Technical Support for the Meest Run the World. Lvivska Desiatka 2026

Meest Run the World. Lvivska Desiatka 2026 took place in Lviv on September 13. The IKS team had already worked with the race organizers in 2021 and provided technical support for their other events. In this case study, we cover this year’s race, the top performers and the technical solutions we used.

About the Race

Lvivska Desiatka has long been part of the city’s running calendar. In 2015, the race was included in the Ukrainian Athletics Federation calendar, and in 2023 it hosted the Ukrainian 10km Road Running Championships. The event takes its name from this distance and has brought together professional athletes and recreational runners over the years.

This year, participants could choose from the following events:

  • 10km race;
  • 5km race;
  • 5km Nordic walking.

The program also included a children’s race. The start and finish areas were located near the Lviv Opera House. The event was supported by its partners, Meest and Audi, and raised funds for Ukrainian defenders.

Technical Support from IKS

When more than 1,500 runners take part in a race, every recorded result must be matched accurately to the correct participant. To prevent mix-ups, the IKS team attached passive transponders to the participants’ race bibs and installed timing systems with antennas along the course. Each time a participant crossed a timing point, the system automatically identified their transponder and recorded their time. This allowed us to track participants along the course and verify the data if any results were disputed.

Schedule changes caused by air raid alerts required special attention. The organizers adjusted the start times and sequence, so the IKS timing team used the actual start time of each race. This ensured that the participants’ results were calculated correctly after the schedule changes.

Results were published online on the IKS website and displayed on an LED screen in the registration area. After the race, each participant received an SMS with their time, allowing them to check their result without searching through the full results list. Up-to-date information was available both at the venue and to those following the race remotely.

Equipment Used

To keep the event running smoothly, the team combined timing systems, finish-line video recording and result display equipment.

  • Attached passive Race Result transponders to the race bibs. Each chip was linked to a specific participant’s data.
  • Recorded the start of each race using the IKS starting system. When air raid alerts changed the order of the races, the team used their actual start times.
  • Installed four Race Result timing systems with horizontal antennas along the course. They read the transponders as participants crossed the timing points.
  • Mounted a Race Result race clock on the support vehicle to display the race time throughout the event.
  • Recorded the finish using video recording systems. The footage could be reviewed to verify the results.
  • Processed timing data in IKS software and published the results online.
  • Displayed times and results on the race clock and IKS LED screens. One of the screens was installed in the registration area, where participants could check their results.

Together, these solutions covered time recording along the course, results processing and fast publication for participants. For IKS, Lvivska Desiatka marked the continuation of our cooperation with the organizers and demonstrated how we provide technical support for a large urban race with many participants and a changing start schedule.
